Seven Savvy Sisters Spring Cleaning Tips

Updated: Jun 24, 2019

Spring Has Sprung

It’s that time of year again, when the winter is still trying to hold on, but spring is pushing its pretty head in the door. The Seven Savvy Sisters are dragging out all of their cleaning supplies and tools to help make things sparkle and shine.

Here are a few of the Seven Savvy Sisters favorite cleaning supplies, tools, and recipes to help make your home fresh and clean.

Helen:

Magic Eraser is an all time favorite tool. I use it in place of using an oven cleaner. I do not like the toxic fumes of an oven cleaner. I use the Magic Eraser, water and a little muscle💪. My oven sparkles.

Other Favorite products:

Murphy’s Oil Soap for cabinets.

Quick Shine for hardwood floors.

Sprayway Glass Cleaner in a can, for streak-free windows. No ammonia.. Foamy! Love it.

JoJo:

Plastic Scraper, What a great tool this is when it comes to cleaning pizza stones, baked on messes, and scraping the bottom of a bowl with old food. Keep it with your sink tools.

SueO:

White vinegar for cleaning microwave. Microwave a ½ cup of white vinegar in a cup or bowl for 1 minute. Let it sit for 5 minutes then wipe out the microwave. Good as new.

JanieO:

Runs and Air B&B and does a lot of laundry.

Here is her favorite;

Laundry 🧺 recipe: 1/2 cup liquid non perfumed laundry detergent, 1 cup of Distilled White Vinegar & 1/4 cup of Borax. Pour ingredients into your washing machine as it filling with water. Wash on a regular cycle. Fresh and fluffy sheets & towels.

Jean:

Vinegar and Baking Soda:

I use vinegar for many cleaning products. I use it on windows, mirrors, sinks and bathrooms, wooden kitchen cabinets, walls, window sills and wooden floors. Boundless uses for vinegar.

I keep a box of baking soda near my kitchen sink and when I finish the dishes, I sprinkle baking soda all over my sinks. It deodorizes odors. I don’t rinse it off but let the natural process of the next days washing dishes disintegrate the baking soda. My sinks sparkle!

Claire:

Favorite tools: Magic Eraser for tea stains on my countertops.

A plastic scraper for chipping away at a baked on mess and cleaning out old food from dishes.

Glass cleaner with ammonia cuts any grease on stainless steel surfaces.

Goo Gone is amazing on taking off labels, stickers; and ink stains on hard surfaces.

Bonus Tip

Do you have pet stains on your carpet?

Woolite INSTA Clean OXY is incredible at getting out pet stains, even if you have a large golden retriever. If one does not have a pet, Spot Shot, Resolve, or Shaving Cream work well as carpet spot cleaners.

Janie is an amazing photographer. She finds the most beautiful flowers and captures their beauty. It's the color of spring that I crave. Go out and buy yourself a bouquet of spring flowers. You'll be glad you did!

The Seven Savvy Sisters hope that our spring cleaning tips help get you started on your way to a cleaner home. So push back the curtains and open the windows to let the sunshine in and the springtime air freshen your breathing space.

Happy Spring.

Smile and Be Kind,

Claire

Great tips all around from a group I know well! I see a trend emerging for vinegar and for Borax! For economy, note that you can purchase magic erasers for pennies if you look for them as melamine foam or melamine sponges. Also, I think that Ronson lighter fluid is the best overall label or adhesive remover (better the goo gone, but usually only found now where smoking supplies are sold). Happy Spring (Cleaning)!
